Watch This Cold-Blooded Python Absolutely Dominate an Alligator in an Underwater Battle
Two fierce predators in Florida duke it out in the Palm Beach waters. Where one might think the alligator will reign supreme, we can’t underestimate the power this python wields in his grip.
Python and Alligator Sighting in Palm Beach
The next YouTube video posted at the bottom of this blog post takes us to Palm Beach, located in the great state of Florida. This video was filmed and shared of a python and alligator by the Palm Beach Post YouTube page. This channel is connected with the actual Palm Beach Post. Which is a part of the USA Today network that shares news of what happens in their community.
“While biking on Loop Rd. in Big Cypress National Preserve, Palm Beach Post reporter Joe Capozzi came upon a python taking on an alligator.”
Python Vs. Alligator
At the start of the video, we see an alligator that being rolled around. And we quickly see a python. Now, without the background on what kind of python it is, how can we rightly determine what type of python this is?
How To Determine What Snake It Is?
Well, a combination of the look of the python, the location, and checking in with a snake expert doesn’t hurt!
The look of the python in the beginning shows us a v-shaped marking on its head. Which Burmese pythons are known to have. According to the Florida Museum, “The top of the head is dark with a light stripe on both sides of the head that extends through the eye to converge on the nose, forming a dark V-pattern.”
The location is in Florida, and Florida is home to the Burmese python. There are known to be over 300,000 Burmese pythons in Florida alone! According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, “The Burmese python is a large nonvenomous constrictor that is an invasive species in Florida. Burmese pythons are found primarily in and around the Everglades ecosystem in south Florida where the snake represents a threat to native wildlife.”
This Burmese python squeezes the life out of this alligator. At one point, we see the alligator rolling in the beginning. While we might confuse this with the crocodile’s famous death roll, pythons aren’t known to do this. Our assumption would be this was a special circumstance. And given the location of this python with this alligator that caused it to do this.
However, like our snake experts here at A-Z Animals like to say, that snakes are smarter than we think they are and are always adapting to new ways.
